Designing the DIY app for the best-known DIY brand

Thanks to scores of immensely popular DIY shows, the Scripps Networks brand had an enormous collection of images they knew their viewers would love to explore. And they were looking for a new way to promote their retail partners. Enter the HGTV Folio, an iPad app designed for browsing and sharing design galleries. A style finder quiz and image hotspots that call out paint colors and partner products makes it easier to get the look. Just as inspiring as the design galleries is the infrastructure behind the app, which enables staff to manage images from a variety of content management sources. With 40,000 downloads in the first two weeks, the HGTV Folio App was designated a “New and Noteworthy” feature on iTunes—an honor this team of digital DIYers was proud to celebrate.
